This sterling silver wire wrapped Herkimer Diamond necklace is elegant, open and airy. The crystal I used seemed to me to have a exceptional way of catching the light due to its interesting slightly twisted structure. It just called out to me to use a design featuring twisted wire. I always enjoy playing with asymmetrical balance, and while I have said in other posts these “Herks” have given me a great opportunity, this one proved to be a special challenge. I loved the twisted circle and the off center stone, but making the whole thing balance proved to be so much more difficult than the similar style pendants I had designed. Finally I diverged from the design pattern I had been using and added just a simple wire to create more visual weight on the top but with a lightness I could not achieve with the silver beads. The pendant pictured is the exact pendant you will receive. It is one of a kind with more hours of love poured into designing it than I could possible charge for.
Sally M. Reis is a professor of Educational Psychology at UConn and has done a great deal of research on gifted and talented females and the challenges they face. I have been reading her book, “Work Left Undone: Choices & Compromises of Talented Females” and decided she should have a place in my Brilliant and Beautiful Collection. Looking at her, this pendant seemed to suit her, and as I thought about the struggle I had trying to bring balance to this pendant, it seemed to mirror the struggle of the women in her book to find balance.More info on Sally M.
